About this service

The engine room of your pool.

The plant room holds everything that keeps a pool working: pumps, filters, valves, dosing and sanitising equipment, heating and controls. Heating can be a heat pump, boiler-fed heat exchanger or other system depending on the pool.

We install new plant rooms and heating systems, either as part of a refurbishment or new build, or as a standalone upgrade. Equipment is sized to your pool's volume and use, and laid out so it runs efficiently and can be serviced easily.

It's for owners with ageing, noisy or unreliable equipment, pools that are expensive or slow to heat, or plant rooms that have been added to piecemeal over the years. Professional installation matters because these components must be matched: an oversized pump with a small filter, or a heater with poor flow, wastes energy and wears out early.

If it's ignored

Signs your plant room is costing you.

Old or mismatched equipment shows up on your bills and in your water.

High energy bills

Older single-speed pumps and inefficient heaters use much more electricity or fuel than modern equipment.

Slow or uneven heating

Undersized heating or poor flow means the pool never quite reaches temperature, shortening your swimming season.

Frequent breakdowns

Ageing equipment fails more often, usually in peak season when you most want to swim.

Poor water quality

Weak circulation and filtration leave dead spots where algae and cloudiness start.

Watch out for

Common mistakes we see

  • Replacing one part at a time without checking the whole system matches
  • Choosing heating without considering a cover to keep heat in
  • Cramming equipment in so it can't be serviced
  • Ignoring ventilation and drainage in the plant room

In detail

What goes into a plant room.

Each component affects the others. Here's what we look at.

Pumps

The pump drives circulation. Variable-speed pumps can run slower for longer, cutting energy use while improving filtration.

Filters

Sand, glass-media or cartridge filters are sized to the pump and pool volume so water is properly cleaned without restricting flow.

Heat pumps

Heat pumps extract heat from the air and can be an efficient way to heat outdoor and indoor pools, especially paired with a cover.

Other heating

Heat exchangers linked to a boiler and other heaters can suit some pools, particularly indoor ones or where fast heat-up is needed.

Dosing and controls

Automatic chlorinators and controls keep sanitiser and pH steady and reduce manual work.

Domestic and commercial

Commercial pools need equipment that copes with heavier bather loads and continuous use. We install for both.

FAQs

Plant Room & Heating Installation: your questions.

Can't see yours? Call 07879 067691.

How much does a new plant room or heating system cost?

It depends on pool size, the equipment chosen and the work involved. Survey and quote are free.

Is a heat pump right for my pool?

Heat pumps suit many pools, especially with a cover. We'll recommend options based on your pool and how you use it.

Can you upgrade just the heating?

Yes, as long as the existing pump and filter can provide the flow it needs. We'll check that first.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the scope and equipment lead times. You'll get a timeline with your quote.

Is the installation guaranteed?

Yes. Terms depend on the work and equipment, and are confirmed in writing.

Can I reduce my pool's running costs?

Usually. Efficient pumps, matched equipment and a good cover can make a real difference.

Do you install commercial plant rooms?

Yes. We work with domestic and commercial clients.

Which areas do you cover?

Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and London.
